Intures inspected various installations in the raw materials area of Tata Steel IJmuiden. The purpose of these integrity inspections is to determine the remaining lifespan of the installations and to align them with the business interests and vision of the client.

The inspections included main steel and substructure, stairs, platforms and belt- and platform constructions. To support the inspection reports, a 3D laserscan of the installation is made prior to inspection. Next, the laserscan is modelled into a BIM model that the inspectors used to record inspection results.

After inspection results are acquired, the integrity of the structure can be assessed by a structural engineer. Material removal, corrosion and cracking of the material are accurately assessed and calculated.

After this, all results are recorded in a clear report and a maintenance plan is drawn up in consultation with the client, based on the desired residual life. The use of 3D models resulted in much better insight as to the required maintenance scope.
